"Delay is natural to a writer. He is like a surfer—he bides his time. Waits for the perfect wave on which to ride in. He waits for the surge (of emotion? of strength? of courage?) that will carry him along." (E.B. White, The Paris Review Interviews, 1969)
D'oh! That is *definitely* a wrong answer. You never want your staff to get back to a reporter with an answer to a question about your personal life. Besides sounding completely scripted, it makes you sound like an out of touch doofus.
This aspect of the campaign isn't really being played up in the major news media though, is it?
Not a lot of coverage, but it is starting to pick up steam with the Obama ads highlighting his wealth and discussing his "out of touch" stump speech answers in nearly every venue. Look for this to become an issue as we get past both conventions.
