What a bizarre list. It certainly goes way beyond the feel-good/self-help litany of predictable experiences ("have you dipped your feet in the ocean?"), though it preserves some of the elements of it. I have to say, while I don't normally go for this kind of thing, the inclusion of unpleasant and "real life" experiences, like putting someone you love in Hospice care--certainly not a stop-and-smell-the-roses-moment--increases its intrigue factor.
If I tried #58, many others would no doubt have fulfilled #116.
I've been avoiding #58... Not. my. cup. o. chowder.
The list still buys into the live life to the fullest idea with its attendant class assumptions (how many of us can afford a trip to Thailand?), but it *does* expand the idea of a full life im more realistic ways, as you sketch in your comment.
"Sketch"? I'm sketch.
Oh, and I've done #58. It's MY cup o' chunky soup.
Captcha word: ergasuzh, as in "Look out for the ergasuzh..."
Okay, Sport. About this animal you killed and prepared?
You aren't counting fish are you? They aren't even warm.
You can "blame" me for that one. I think that fish should count, considering that some fish actually kill, clean, and eat people (something people in Hawaii definitely know about, right?)
Well, I hope I wasn't eating the cockroach from #132.
Yes, killing a fish (and cooking it later that night) was a truly traumatic experience for me. The trout "swallowed the hook," convulsed and bled from the mouth. It couldn't flap a few times and die quietly like all the other trout. Have to admit, it was darn tasty!
I also saw catching and gutting my own fish as a rite of passage as an eater of flesh.
My father, professional and avocational fish-collector always humanely raps the little trout soundly on its noggin, thereby not having to traumatize both fish and fisherperson.
But if you're going to traumatize it, at least it gave it's life to an appreciative carnivore. You know, those heartless bears don't even think about the fish's suffering at all.
Think about those tasty suffering fish all the time. Then I think about honey...and scratching my back on a tree. God, typing is hard.
Aren't humans and bears omnivores?
We're certainly built that way.
BEST list EVER. I am adding some of these things to the "Life List" I created due to Ellen DeGeneres' show... thanks!!
