"Delay is natural to a writer. He is like a surfer—he bides his time. Waits for the perfect wave on which to ride in. He waits for the surge (of emotion? of strength? of courage?) that will carry him along." (E.B. White, The Paris Review Interviews, 1969)

The Shame of North Dakota
I have heard the sobs of soldiers who lost comrades in Iraq. We have ALL lost friends and fellow Americans in that war.
You're right. At first it sounds like something small. Then you realize that these machines are programmable, and that the small tolerances make a huge difference. I really hope the people who decided to pocket a few more $$ at the expense of soldier pay a heavier price.
You, know, as educators who often have ROTC students in our classes, it is just sad to think that they are being sent to risk their lives for all the wrong reasons.
Then I read about this that basically is sending them without the proper equipment.
It's like asking them to write a paper for our class but only letting them read half the book.

You're right. As the article progressed, it just got worse and worse. I didn't expect that.
